Making an Icon Set

So many things we interact with every day are represented by Icons. An Icon is a small graphic used to represent something without using words. When we see icons we could culturally know their significance- for example the signal of the walking person or hand shown when to cross the street or stay put- or we could learn their significance through usage.

Your icon set must be:
  • At least 6 icons in total. It can be more, but you must have a MINIMUM of 6
  • Not just a regular picture, it must have some kind of overlay, text or change made to it in photoshop
  • A cohesive set, meaning that it fits in with the other icons in the set both content wise and visually
Remember some of the things you were shown in Photoshop last week; if you have a specific question or vision for your icon set, ask us and we can tell you how to accomplish it.

Methods
  • Overlays
  • Textures
  • Change the layer type (Multiply, hard light, etc.)
  • Color / Hue
  • Brightness / Contrast
  • Adding Text
  • Adding shapes / graphics
  • Be creative!

Welcome to Digital Art!

We will be learning about combining traditional art principles with digital tools in order to create digital art. Despite being made on the computer, digital art requires just as much skill and practice as any other tool used to create works of art.

In order to have a better semester, we'd like to get to know more about you and what you're interested in learning!

For your first assignment, copy and paste the survey below into your e-mail, fill out the answers and send it to MissWhitneyAK@gmail.com. If you can, include a picture of yourself!

If you do not have an e-mail account, take a few moments to make a gmail account at www.mail.google.com. If you are having difficulty, please raise your hand for assistance.
